The Iran Heritage Foundation is pleased to support ‘Uncanny Knowledge: Unsettling the Architectures of Silencing’, a two-day international symposium taking place on 7-8 November at Nottingham Contemporary.
Co-curated by Elham Puriyamehr and Feri Moosavi, the gathering brings together artists, researchers and communities to explore how sound, vibration, listening and embodied experience can serve as forces of resistance, foster collective knowledge and inspire social transformation.
Against a backdrop of escalating global crises, the symposium examines the interconnected economic, geopolitical and ideological forces behind silencing. It explores how sound and listening can help recover suppressed histories, preserve cultural memory and open up new possibilities for collective life.
This programme features contributions from artists and researchers, alongside Professor Irit Rogoff, Ayreen Anastas, René Gabri and Professor Hamid Dabashi. Discussions will consider how sound and embodied experience can give expression to suppressed memories and hopes, and help imagine alternative ways of living together.
The IHF is proud to support this important intellectual and cultural gathering through grants awarded by its Academic Committee, alongside the Canada Council for the Arts.
7-8 November 2026 | 11 am-5 pm at Nottingham Contemporary.
